University of Kentucky Campus Safety Alert

(Can you imagine a society in which women are not comfortable excerising alone or must be "escorted" at all times by males--read the report/warning below... this is the fourth report on our campus in the last week.)

On Feb. 9, 2005, a female student reported to Lexington Police that she had been attacked and sexually assaulted while jogging. This attack occurred in a parking lot in the area of Stone Avenue between 7 and 7:30 a.m.

The unknown suspect is described as a white male in his mid-20s-30s, 5'8", medium build, with brown hair, and a stubble beard. He was further described to have had bad dental hygiene and to have smelled of alcohol and cigarettes. He was wearing blue jeans and a sweat shirt.

UK Police offer the following safety precautions:

~ Do not exercise/jog alone; always walk/exercise in a heavily traveled area (pedestrian/vehicular) or with others.
~ Always be aware of your surroundings and what other people around you are doing.
~ Have preplanned escape routes should something occur.
~ Carry a cell phone or other personal safety device.

If you see anyone acting suspicious, go to the nearest phone and call 911 or use your cellular phone by dialing #UKPD (#8573).
