"My task which I am trying to achieve is, by the power of the written word, to make you hear, to make you feel--it is, above all, to make you see." -- Joseph Conrad (1897)

John F. Kennedy: Freedom of the Press; Dwight D. Eisenhower: Military-Industrial Complex; Why We Fight; Century of the Self; Orwell Rolls in His Grave
"Why We Fight" just arrived today from my Blockbuster queue - looking forward to watching it with some friends tonight! Thanks again for recommending it awhile back. Sorry I've been absent of late - was out of town for a few weeks and then my youngest has been sick for a few weeks. Just catching up now. Hope you are doing well.
I hope you find it as interesting as I did... especially since Jarecki is only 25, it makes me happy to see such political filmmaking activism from a younger generation.
I hope your child is feeling better.
I am doing good... working, living, struggling... this is life and I like it (considering the alternative).
:) I'm going to be in Oregon/Washington for two weeks in late July... do you want to meet and say hello?
I LOVED the movie! Watched all the additional footage on the dvd as well. I agree, how wonderful that a younger person is out there trying to make a difference. I hadn't known about the removal of 'congressional' from the phrase 'military/industrial complex' - truly fascinating and sadly so prescient. I'm spreading the word on the movie. Also saw the movie Children of Men right before - really enjoyed that one as well - and so it was some interesting juxtapositioning and overlap.
It would be a pleasure to meet you. What are you doing up here in Washington? If you need a place to use as a base, could crash in our guest room. If interested, send me an email and we can work out the details. Having said all that, we've been tentatively talking about a trip around that time as well, but haven't firmed anything up as of yet.
