Friends of Tortuga

Website for the long-standing anarchist collective household in Jackson Heights, Queens that was raided by a Joint Terrorism force after the recent Pittsburgh G20 Summit. Members were arrested, the house was searched/ransacked, and anything that looked faintly subversive was seized—famously a needlepoint of Lenin was included… Eventually all charges were dropped … it was initiated because two Tortuga members were using Twitter to communicate police announcements over the publicly accessible/available police scanner. Ironically this was the same tactic/technology that the Obama administration celebrated months earlier when used by Iranian activists. Is it a crime to twitter/text public information?
