Will the changes sweeping across the Middle East revolutionise the US' relationship with the region?
In 2009, Barack Obama, the US president, took the stage at Cairo University and spoke of a new beginning between Washington and the Arab world.
Yet, less than two years later, on February 18, 2011 the Obama administration used its first United Nations Security Council veto to strike down a resolution declaring Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem to be illegal.
This leads many to question whether the state of political flux in the Middle East will encourage the US to adopt changes in its foreign policy.
Riz Khan ... speak[s] with world-renowned author and historian Tariq Ali. Also on the show is Zalmay Khalilzad, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, Iraq and Afghanistan.

In tonight's program, Khalil Bendib speaks with Director of the Institute of Jerusalem Studies and Birzeit University Professor of sociology Salim Tamari about an essay published in the Jerusalem quarterly titled "Jerusalem's Ottoman modernity," in which he depicts a very different Jerusalem around the turn of the 20th century than the one we are familiar with today.
Later in the program, Malihe Razazan speaks with Hadani Ditmars, a co-editor of New Internationalist, who went to Iraq in February of this year to explore whatever is left of the art in post-invasion Iraq.

We then offer the hip-hop song that got Spc. Marc Hall imprisoned and facing a court martial, when he dared to call out the US Army’s disingenuous “stop-loss” policy, which forces members of the US Army to remain in the service beyond their contracted enlistments. We expose the the full extent of Israel’s plans for East Jerusalem, which seeks to effectively alter “facts on the ground”, and displace any hope of the “Peace Process”. We highlight the proposed legislation in Arizona which if passed will make every undocumented worker in the state a criminal “trespasser”. Lastly, we feature a day in Revolutionary History, March 25th, and remember the horror of one of America’s worst industrial disasters, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire.
