Blue Mountain School in Cottage Grove, Oregon

(My junior high school education and brief stint in various high schools were a waste of time, if not damaging to me, if only I had the opportunity to attend something like this when I was growing up...)

*Blue Mountain School in Cottage Grove, Oregon, USA is growing and needs to find high quality democratic educators to add to our staff.*

Operating as a publicly funded Oregon Charter School, Blue Mountain is a democratic school where students, age 5-19, participate in all aspects of the governing of the school and determine their own education. It is a place where students are free. Natural curiosity, democracy, and freedom with responsibility are the foundation the school is built upon; students of all ages mix freely in a community environment, teaching and learning from each other.

Blue Mountain staff members need to have a blend of many talents including teaching skills, administrative skills, professionalism, good communication skills, and a regard for children as independent free thinking individuals. The school's unique learning environment is a place rich in vibrant energy and we're looking for new staff members to add to that richness.

Positions for new full-time staff members for the 2005-2006 school year come with a salary between $23,000 and $27,000. The final selection will take place in late May.

More information and application forms can be found on the Blue Mountain School website at www.bluemountainschool.com

My husband is a native Oregonian and I lived there for a number of years. The interesting thing about Oregon is how polar the views are within its population. They tend to be either very liberal and progressive or extremely conservative. My main hope is the conservatives don't overrun the progressives. =/

Yeah, that was my experience when I lived there... although there are a lot of people in-between (my family there tends to run along those lines... with a spattering of radicals from both ends of spectrum)

But what a beautiful place...
