Sojourners

I have been complaining a lot about the insane and scary agendas of the religious right's planned spiritual war (see the May issue of Harper's magazine for a series of articles on this movement which believes that Jesus is pro-rich, pro-war, pro-American and best realized through a free-market system) and the manipulative way in which many politicians have seized upon faith-based issues for political gain.

Thus, in these times, it is with great pleasure that I come across authentic voices of Christian spirituality condemning these religious manipulators and deceivers.

Thanks Sojourners! I hope people hear your message.

I have the Sojourners "God is not ..." sticker in my car's rear window. Posted it there prior to the '04 election.

I forgot to give credit where it's due, Thivai. You're the one who alerted me to the film clip I linked to on my own blog. I've since corrected the matter.

Jim Wallis is my kind of Evangelical (my own views on revealed religion are best described as agnostic). It's amazing that a man as spritual, intelligent, and compelling as Wallis is pretty much resigned to go on The Daily Show if he wants to use television to get his message across to people, isn't it? But what the hell, it works...

Great sticker Brainwise--this was actually the first time I had seen that image...

Mimus, thanks for the props. I am constantly amazed how a comedy show like The Daily Show is more relevant, insightful and intelligent, than the mainstream TV news shows. Sad commentary on the media machine...
