At last Thursday night's dinner we were discussing the misplaced values of the Bush "No Child Left Behind" testing policies and the overall pedagogical-philosophy of the US educational system. With that in mind Angela Schuman sent this satirical folk song from Tom Chapin.
Not On the Test

Man we're having 'fun' with that in Washington state. This was the first year any WASL failures was to preclude graduation but the failure rate was too high so they decided to push it off to 2010 or 2012. My youngest has developmental issues - there's no way to factor that in so not sure what will happen with that down the road. There is a WASL test for each grade level but only certain years are critical for advancement.
One of my friends said they are evaluating a WASL for Arts & Music. Wha?
What a mess.
