Net Art for the Novice

Rhizome

"Remember how cool it was when you best friend made you a mixed tape - one sing-in-the-shower-song after another; the Net Art equivalent has graciously been compiled by Canadian web artist Richard Barbeau in his Planetary Vigil of Net Art. Barbeau asked 27 artists, curators and general cybernuts to choose their favorite online project. The result is a highly personal mix – a great introduction to Net Art for the novice, and for those familiar with the choosers, a telling set of juxtapositions. It’s an international set – though heavy on the francophones. Patrick Keller puts forward virtual architecture, Gregory Chatonsky prefers the moody, voyeuristic ‘Betagirl’. But the greatest hit of this greatest hits album is surely ‘The Struggle Continues’ by Korean artist, Young-Hae Chang, an exhuberant, simple - but never simplistic - exercise in digital rhythms." - Elizabeth Bard
