Music For Trade: Thivai Mix 1

I'm tired of giving money to the corporate music industry and cannot stomach the crap that is played on my local radio stations... so anyone want to trade some music? I'm making a collection of mixes from my CDs and will gladly trade for samples of others' music tastes (Oso and Harry I owe you for other cool stuff, so if you want copies, just let me know and I'll send them):

It Kills--Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks
Ska La Carte--The Scofflaws
Soul Love--David Bowie
Full Disclosure--Fugazi
Nothing to Say--Jethro Tull

Great idea. I'll send you some things at random that I think you might like, based on the stuff you list here.

Harry, I'll package up a few for you... I just finished #2 and I'm working on #3. I have very eclectic tastes and seek out obscure collections (but that doesn't mean I reject something simply because it is popular) so that could be why you don't recognize some of them.

I often trade music with my students and they keep me informed on some of the more popular tunes.

This another reason why I want to trade with people--its sort of like a reading circle where we share our favorites.

I assume you have the same address?

I also ordered Richard Powers new book for you to review for Reconstruction.

Elenamary,

Thank you very much! You know I actually had DJ Spooky on my Ph.D comprehensive exam reading list?

Ricia,

What I am thinking is that those that are interested--we can swap addresses.

I'm forseeing making at least a hundred or so of these mixes (over time) and when someone tells me they are interested in a mix I can send it to them and I will probably throw another one in to make it worth the effort (I also get random freebies that i might include). Then they can also snail-mail me a mix or two.

I love learning about new music and sharing is great!

My email is in my profile page--if you are interested email me and include your mailing address. I'll send you a care package and you will have my address.

Least this is as far as I have thought it out ;)

Continetal Op,

Sounds great, do you have my address?

I'll check my files to see if I have yours

Harry, it was a major hassle to get the publisher to send it to me as a "reviewer" copy--so i requested it as a teaching exam copy (since I teach lit) and thus had to have the book sent to my office--once I get it I'll send it to you.

Send the links--I'll see if they play or download the file ...

Hey Thivai, I used to do CD mix trades through crabwalk.com. He had a good system, which you can read about here. The cool thing was that if you sent him two copies of your mix, he would keep one and send the other out with his mix to another person who had sent in two copies (you would get an extra from another person that had sent in an extra). Anyway, thought you'd find it interesting, whether you'd like to do that as well or not.

I'm going to send you my address so I can get in on the swapping. Much fun for music lovers.
