I've been Walmart free for over a year now. Some of our good friends who are elementary teachers just told us this weekend that the Washington teacher's union has encouraged all teachers to boycott Walmart and that if any receipts for school supplies come from Walmart, they will not be reimbursed. This is because of Walmart's support of charter schools and vouchers.
They need to give their employees benefits!!

Thanks Susanne, I'll pass that on to some elementary school teachers I know...

Wal-Mart is problematic from top to bottom... discrimination, subcontracting problems, false claim of American products, predatory pricing, anti-union policies, etc...

but America still shops there?

They are not the only ones that use these predatory pricing practices in which they undercut local competition and then when their competitors go out of business they raise the prices again... Borders, is another notorious examples.

I can understand why Wal Mart would go over big in small town/rural areas where there isn't many alternatives, but you would think urban people would find other alternatives...

Thanks for the link Harry! I've been teaching about Wal-Mart in my classes for the last four years... I find some of my students really "hate" Wal-Mart because of its impact on their small towns.
