Last tuesday I was visiting this small town Midway, KY where Melissa is teaching a literature course at the local women's university and I found this cool little independent bookstore, Odyssey Books, located underneath a cafe. Impressed by its eclectic stock, comfortable space and friendly owner I decided to purchase a book from him. This is the book I got:
Talking to Strangers
An excerpt from
Talking to Strangers: Anxieties of Citizenship since Brown v. Board of Education
Interview With Danielle S. Allen
Video of Allen discussing why our political life is characterized by so much distress and her thoughts on how we can arrive at a place of more peaceful interaction.
Also the introduction to her previous book The World of Prometheus:
The Politics of Punishing in Democratic Athens is available in HTML and PDF formats.
Interview on WBEZ Chicago Public Radio on "American Citizenship"
NPR Interview "Race, Class and Talking to Strangers"
